COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Policy for all YMCA Participants – FAQ’s
Why are we requiring vaccines for all program participants and visitors?
As per the Ontario Government’s new Enhanced COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate program, as of September 22, 2021, we are required to ensure that members and participants who access our facilities are fully vaccinated (with the exception of those aged 11 and under and those with a medical accommodation).
This requirement is aimed at ensuring that we prioritize the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and participants. The concerning rise in the number of COVID-19 cases due to the delta variant threatens the progress we have all made in responding to the pandemic.
As we consider the vulnerable communities we serve and the presence of children in our centres – many of whom are too young to be vaccinated – we must do everything we can to ensure their health and safety.
Examples of visitors include contractors, people touring our centres, groups using our community spaces, etc.
Can participants who are not vaccinated take part in our programs until September 22, 2021?
Yes. All participants have until September 22, 2021 to meet the vaccination requirement. However, in the interest of safety, we strongly encourage everyone to be vaccinated as quickly as possible. Keep in mind that the interval between mRNA vaccines (i.e. Pfizer and Moderna) is 28 days. As we work toward the September 22, 2021 deadline, all of our current health and safety protocols for each program area and in each centre remain in place.
Are we offering accommodations for participants who can’t be vaccinated?
Our Y will comply with human rights laws and accommodate individuals who are legally entitled to an exemption. Accommodation could include virtual offerings, outdoor offerings or other program alternatives.
Proof of Vaccination
Ontarians currently have access to a paper or PDF vaccine receipt that includes all relevant information to prove that they are fully vaccinated. As of September 22, Ontarians will be required to show their vaccine receipt when entering designated settings along with another piece of photo identification, such as a driver’s licence or health card.
To download your receipt, go to the provincial portal at https://covid19.ontariohealth.ca/ and download vaccine receipt(s), individuals will need the following:
- a green photo health (OHIP) card (numbers from both the front and back)
- date of birth
- postal code
Steps to download receipts(s):
- Enter the requested personal information and press “Continue”;
- Select “Continue” under the header: “Vaccination Receipts”; and
- Click “Download the Receipt” for the desired vaccination date.
Individuals with a red and white health card, or individuals who are having difficulty accessing their vaccine receipt(s) online, should call the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900. A call centre agent can email a copy of the receipt.
Will my membership/program participation be cancelled if I am not being vaccinated?
In accordance with the Provincial Enhanced COVID-19 Vaccine Certificate program, beginning September 22, 2021, we will no longer be permitted to allow any members/program participants, who do not have a Provincially approved exemption, to enter our facilities. With an active membership you will still be able to access virtual programs and other online offerings through the YMCA online portal. The Province has indicated that the Certificate program will only be in place as long as is necessary and therefore, if you would like, you will be able to put your membership on hold until you are fully vaccinated or until the program has ended.
