After School Program

Together with various community partners, the YMCA offers recreational after school programming to children ages 6-12. This program provides families with a safe and secure after school location for their children accompanied by caring, active staff who lead fun and original programming focused on physical activity, nutrition and wellness. The YMCA after school program is a recreational after school program designed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Each day the children will help in preparing a healthy snack that they will start their day by sharing together. Our program leaders plan a variety of active games and sports for the children. Our aim is to provide at least 1.5-2 hours of recreation play each day for children. The program leaders are carefully selected based on experience, leadership and the ability to work with children. All staff hold current First Aid/CPR “C” and AED certifications as well as clear criminal record with vulnerable sector checks. Our staff are well trained before starting as an after school program leader, as well participate in ongoping training  covering topics such as healthy child development, behaviour management, program planning and student safety.  Programs are supported by funds from Canadian Tire Jumpstart, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sport and Loblaws Companies Ltd.

YMCA Balsillie Branch

The YMCA After School location is for children 6-12 years of age. We welcome children from any school to join us for our program. We provide staff to do bus pick ups within 2 blocks from the YMCA. Transportation to this range must be provided for your child and bus arrangements must be made through the parent and bus company prior to your child starting. This program focuses on recreation and healthy choices. A healthy snack is prepared and offered to your child every day, active games and sports are played with the group and on Friday afternoons your children will participate in 1 hour of swimming. If your child is a YMCA member and is registered for land programs or swimming lessons our staff are happy to provide drop off and pick up to these programs.
